The Humbug witch has difficulty making magic potions. Her broom won't fly and even her laugh comes out a giggle instead of a cackle!
This classic book from 1965 is adorable. This witch with the handmade black scarf, the orange gloves, the crumpled black hat, the BIG nose, the striped stockings is having a very difficult time getting her spells to work. It has a perfectly unexpected ending for a children’s book. My daughter asked me at the beginning of the second reading what “humbug” meant. It means “deceptive or false behavior.” It is a lovely title for a quirky fun Halloween story.
